About Me
My name is Kathy Serum and this is my eleventh year of teaching for Houghton Lake Community Schools. I began my career with the district at the middle school where I spent four years teaching sixth through eighth graders. Then, I taught for two years at Second Chance Academy. In 2008, I returned to the main campus to teach special education at the high school. I really enjoy working with students at this age level. It is exciting to see their growth from 8th to 12th grade.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy many outdoor activities such as swimming, camping and fishing. A personal passion of mine is kayaking, and it is fast becoming a family favorite. I have kayaked many local lakes and rivers along with other, more challenging bodies of water. To date, I have kayaked the Sturgeon River, which is the fastest flowing river in the Lower Peninsula, the Big Manistee and the Straits of Mackinaw.
